We need not look far for tyrants.

As a matter of fact, we need to look only to our current Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives to watch the tyrants among us.

"Tyrants in Our Time" details how these men became dictators and their destructive force's impact on our world even to this day.

In my book, Tyrants in Our Time, I lay out the lives of 14 dictators, all lives having several common denominators. The one pertinent to this discussion is that when tyrants sense their diminishing power, as Hitler and others did in the past, and as Assad in Syria is doing in the present, they will destroy their country,

In a recent press conference, President Obama outlined clearly that raising the debt ceiling, which has been done routinely under many administrations, and which is now needed for our country to pay its bills, is not a bargaining chip for the Republicans.

They do not “get something” for bringing this to a vote. It is to pay social security recipients, veterans, the military, federal employees and others relying on monthly paychecks from their government.

Their expected funds should not be withheld while the Republicans think of new ways to hold President Obama and those recipients hostage to their tyranny.

The Republicans have no qualms about bringing our country to its knees, ruining our credit ratings, and causing chaos in the financial and business world, if doing so will weaken a president who, in spite of Republican voter suppression laws and an inordinate amount of money to defeat him, won reelection by a sizable margin, from which the Republicans are still smarting.

How dare he?

President Obama is criticized for not working across the aisle. How can he? He has tried but has learned he is not dealing with reasonable people: he is facing tyrants who have no intention of working with him. They would rather see their country flounder.
